Sports Betting News - September 29th, 2009 - Written by Scott
Hawaii will travel to play Louisiana Tech in a rare Wednesday night matchup. This will be both team's first conference opener and is big for both schools as they try to contend for a WAC title. Fatique could come into play for the Warriors as their last two games have been away and have spent eleven days on the road. In their last game on September 19, Louisiana Tech got their first win of the season over Nicholls Sate 48-13. In Hawaii's last outing, they were handed a loss by UNLV 34-33 in the final minutes of the game. Hawaii leads the series 6-1 and won last year's meeting 24-14.
Hawaii's offense has been absolutely explosive this year as they are ranked 6th nationally in total yards per game. The offense is centered around the national leader in total offense, quarterback Greg Alexander. He has passed for 1,234 yards and 9 touchdowns in just three games. He is also the team's leading rusher with 104 yards. They also boast three receivers who have caught for more than 250 yards and are led by Greg Salas who has 479 yards receiving. The defense will need to rebound from a horrible second half against UNLV where they blew a halftime lead. They also are ranked 97th in pass defense and will need to stiffen up in this area.
Louisiana Tech has had to rely offensively on quarterback Ross Jenkins so far this year due to a virtually non-existent rushing attack. Jenkins has passed for 662 yards and 3 touchdowns. Running back Daniel Porter needs to get back on track as he has been limited to just 44 yards a game. The true question for the Bulldogs will be how they handle the passing attack that Hawaii will bring. They are only giving up 156 yards a game through the air, but this stat could be skewed as they have only played against teams that the majority of their offense comes from their rushing game. Pressure on the Warriors' quarterback will key in this game.
According to Betus sportsbook, Louisiana Tech will be favored by 3 1/2 at home against Hawaii. The key to this game will be whether or not the Bulldogs' defense will be able to stop Hawaii's explosive offense.
